Computer Networks: Necessary Materials

Dear Students, welcome to EEE Course Materials.

For the course titled 'Computer Networks', we are going to take help from the following two excellent books:

1. 640-802 CCNA Exam Prep written by Jeremy Cioara, David Minutella and Heather Stevenson (2nd Edition)
2. Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach written by James F. Kurose and Keith W. Ross (6th Edition).

For Networking Lab, we will use a Network Simulation Tool (Packet Tracer 6.0.1). Given below is the download link of the software:
Thank you.

SUGGESTIONS! (EEE-1213 & EEE-3111)

Disclaimer: This suggestion only outlines the most important topics. Those of you are targeting TOP marks, you will have to study far more.

Electrical Circuits II (EEE-1213):
  1. R, L, C branch
  2. Basic Definitions
  3. Average & RMS: Both theory & Maths. Calculations from given figure is must!
  4. Maths related to Z calculation
  5. Example of Chapter 8
  6. Resonance
  7. Phasor algebra & Leading-Lagging is must!!!

Signals & Linear Systems (EEE-3111):
  1. Study all the questions of Midterm: Very Very Important
  2. There will be 1 set (10 marks) from Z transform. Study the supplied sheet.
  3. There will be 1 set (10 marks) from Fourier transform. Review the maths done in class.
* At least 20 marks common from Midterm's question!
* Most maths will be unchanged (as done/shown in class)!

Signals and Linear Systems (EEE-3111): Special Suggestion for Midterm, Summer 2014

This suggestion does not guarantee A+, it just covers the most important questions.

Theory:

  • Definitions: Signal, Systems, Classification of various signals, Basic system properties (Linearity, Causality etc.), Basic properties of LTI systems (Associative property, Distributive property etc.), PSD, Autocorrelation.
  • Unit Step function and Unit Impulse function.
  • Shifting property of unit impulse function.

Math:
  • Shifting, Compressing a given signal (discussed in class in detail).
  • Draw signals from given equations.
  • Linearity, Time-invariance, Causality check of systems (examples and also exercises given in the last class).
  • Power and Energy calculation of signals.
  • Examples reviewed in class are VVI.

Thank you and good luck.

  • Definitions: AC, Phasor, Period, Frequency, Angular Frequency, Phase, Phase Difference, Form Factor, Peak Factor etc.
  • Calculation of Average & Effective value of a sinusoidal wave (discussed in last lecture)

Math:
  • Phasor Algebra (at least 6 marks)
  • Leading / Lagging (at least 5 marks)
  • Impedance (Z) Calculation
  • Determination of Period, Phase angle, Angular frequency etc. from a given wave

Thanks everyone. Good luck!
